"This is the standout building of its time...What greater
evidence of the vision of the men who shaped Western Pennsylvania,
formed its industrial base and established its civilization could there
be than this great house."
- George Thomas, PhD Clio Group, Inc.
Construction
began on the Meason Mansion in the late 1790s and was completed in 1802
for Isaac Meason - one of America's first successful industrialists and Colonel in the
Revolutionary War.
The
manor graces the site where, in 1774, George Washington held council
with Native Americans from six different nations.
Over
the past 200 years, only five families have owned the mansion - the most
notable being Henry Clay Frick
In
1990, the estate was deemed a National Historic Landmark - one of only
2,000 in the entire country.
Today,
the mansion is renowned by the nation's leading preservationists and is
considered to be one of the greatest homes in the nation.
